What you need
- Revit 2024, 2025 or 2026 on Windows. Free for students through the Autodesk Education Community.
- A school email address ending in .edu, or an academic domain such as .ac.uk or .edu.au. That address is your verification: it is confirmed by code when you sign up and must stay on the account to renew.
- An Anthropic API key. Banana Chat inside Revit runs on your own key, so Anthropic bills you directly for what you use. Most students spend a few dollars a month. Get one at console.anthropic.com.
How to start
- Create your account with your school email. The address is verified by a code; the account is ready as soon as you are in.
- Download the plugin from the install page, run the installer with Revit closed, and paste your BIM Monkey API key and your Anthropic key the first time Revit opens.
- Open a model and ask for something small: a sheet list, a door-swing check, a viewport placed on a sheet. The getting started guide walks through the first hour.
Questions
- My school address does not end in .edu.
- Email [email protected] from the school address with your program and expected graduation. We add the domain or switch the account by hand, usually the same day.
- Does it expire?
- Access runs 12 months from signup or your last renewal. Renew any time from Settings → Billing; renewing checks that a school address is still on the account and resets the clock to 12 months. Nothing is deleted at expiry, and you can renew after it.
- Can my whole studio use one account?
- Student accounts are one seat each. Classmates sign up with their own school email. Faculty running a course can email us to set up a cohort.
- What happens when I graduate?
- Switch to a paid plan from Settings and keep everything in the account: your standards, corrections, skills and library. Firms that hire you can add you to their team instead.
- Can I use it for freelance or office work?
- No. The education account is for coursework, research and learning. Paid work, including an internship's production drawings, needs a paid seat, which the firm normally provides.
Program terms
The education account is offered to currently enrolled students and teaching faculty for non-commercial use, one account per person, verified by a school email address that stays on the account. It runs for 12 months from signup or last renewal and may be renewed while you remain enrolled. BIM Monkey may ask for proof of enrollment and may end an account used for paid work, shared between people, or opened with an address that does not belong to a current student or faculty member. All other terms are the standard Terms of Service and Privacy Policy; your drawings and standards stay yours and are never shared with other accounts.
